"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 With sadness, love, and profound gratitude, the family of Michelle Yvonne (Edie) Swanson announces her passing on August 3, 2025, at the age of 49.
Michelle was born on August 13, 1975, to Michael and Debra Edie of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Michelle lived in Council Bluffs, attending Longfellow Elementary School, Kim Junior High School, and graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1993. She attended college at Peru State College in Nebraska where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education w/a specialization in Early Childhood Education cuma sum laude. On September 19, 1997, November 25, 1998, and December 29, 2002, respectively, she welcomed her three amazing sons, who became the most important part of her life.
Michelle is survived by her parents, Michael D Edie Sr and Debra Rose (Egan) Edie, her oldest son, Christian Jacob Freed and his life partner, Alicia Garcia; her middle son, Dakota James Freed, and her youngest son, Trevor Jonathan Freed; she is also survived by two sweet granddaughters, Rylee and Sienna, the father of her children, Michael A Freed, and her nephew, Peyton Michael Edie, along with countless other loving extended family members.
Michelle was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Daniel Edie Jr, her paternal grandparents, Patricia R (Foster) Edie and Robert G Edie Sr; and maternal grandparents, Thomas J Egan III and Patricia Dettmer.
Michelle was a devoted mother and wife. She dedicated her career of over 25 years to the early childhood field, serving in many roles as an advocate for quality care and early education of children pre-birth to five years old. Michelle was passionate about horror movies, horror culture, and the Halloween season. She was an avid reader and enjoyed pursuing many creative passions, including baking, entertaining, creating art, writing, and scrapbooking. Michelle was filled with an unwavering spiritual faith in the Lord and was involved in numerous ministry endeavors. She fought the good fight against retroperitoneal sarcoma while living, working, and serving joyfully.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Saturday, August 09, 2025.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative, Catholic Charities Phoenix House, Council Bluffs, IA, BirthRight, Takin it to the Streets Ministry, Hope Net Ministries or Omaha Ronald McDonald House.
