In Loving Memory of Michelle Verd
On September 15, 2025, the world lost a beautiful soul as Michelle Verd passed away at the age of 51. Though her time here was far too short, the life she lived was filled with passion, love, and a fierce devotion to the people and things that mattered most to her. Michelle was born in Yakima, Washington to her loving parents, Michael and Donna Verd. She grew up in Yakima surrounded by family, friends, and the wide-open beauty of the valley that she would always call home. From a young age, Michelle showed an adventurous spirit and a curiosity for the world around her. She was lively, determined, and kindhearted, traits that would carry her through life and shape the woman she became.
One of Michelle's great joys in life was her love of cars. More than just machines, cars represented freedom, movement, and possibility. She loved the feeling of being behind the wheel, with the open road stretching ahead of her. She admired the details that others might overtook-the sound of an engine, the shine of a polished hood, the quiet strength of a vehicle built to last. For Michelle, cars reflected her own spirit: powerful, unique, and full of drive.
Michelle also found peace and inspiration outdoors. She had a special connection to nature and found comfort in its beauty and simplicity. Whether camping under the stars, hiking, or simply sitting outside in the fresh air, she was happiest when she could feel the earth beneath her feet and the sky above her. The outdoors wasn't just a place for her to visit; it was a place where she felt grounded, connected, and alive.
Music filled Michelle's life with color and rhythm. It was her constant companion through both joyful and difficult times, lifting her spirit and giving her words when her own fell short. The songs she loved became part of her story-shared on long drives, quiet evenings, and family gatherings. For Michelle, music wasn't just background noise; it was a way of expressing her soul.
At home, Michelle's life was enriched by her beloved cats, who were far more than pets. They were companions who gave her unconditional love, comfort, and joy. Anyone who knew Michelle understood just how deeply she cared for them-they were part of her family and a reflection of her kind and nurturing heart. But above all her passions, family was the center of Michelle's world. The role she cherished most in life was that of a mother. Her son, Jarek Smith, was her heart, her pride, and her greatest joy. Everything she did was for him, and she poured her love into raising him with strength, guidance, and endless care. Jarek was not only her son but her best friend and her inspiration. She also remained close to her parents, Michael and Donna, whose love and support shaped her life. Michelle carried with her the wisdom and love of generations before, especially her great-grandmother, Cora Lesser, whose memory remained important to her.
Michelle is also remembered and cherished by her extended family: her aunt Deena, her aunt and uncle Linda and Craig Finch, her cousins Tracy and Jeff Hyatt, Samual and Katie Finch, and Lance and Chad Lovewell, along with many other relatives and friends who were blessed to share in her life.
Michelle's personality was unforgettable. She was strong-willed yet tender-hearted, independent yet deeply loyal. She loved fiercely, spoke honestly, and stood by those she cared for. She could light up a room with her laughter, and she had a gift for making people feel seen and loved. She wasn't afraid to be herself, and she encouraged those around her to do the same.
She is survived by her devoted son, Jarek Smith; her parents, Michael and Donna Verd; her extended family named above, and many friends who will never forget her. She will be remembered for her warmth, her courage, and the countless ways she made the lives of others brighter.
Though Michelle's journey on earth has ended, her love, her laughter, and her legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a son who will carry her spirit forward, parents who will always hold her in their hearts, and family and friends who will never forget the gift of her presence.
Michelle's life reminds us to love fully, to live passionately, and to never take for granted the simple joys-whether it be a song, a sunset, or a drive down an open road.
