Mickey Steven Brown, 89 of
Atchison, KS passed away at Tiffany Springs Senior Living Community, Kansas City, MO. He was born in St. Joseph, MO and was the third child of John and Mabel (Chambers) Brown.
Mickey grew up in Elwood, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Kansas where he earned a BA in Chemistry and was a member of the Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He served in the US Army and was stationed at the Army Chemical Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD where he was a Chemical Lab Specialist. After his service in the army, he returned to KU and earned a MA in Microbiology. While at KU, he met the love of his life, Goldie Boldridge and their 62 years of marriage was blessed with a son (Steven) and two adorable granddaughters (Autumn Stancel, and Ava Brown).
He spent his career as a research scientist in the north and west suburbs of Chicago, IL. As a scientist, he has published his scientific research in various scientific journals and presented his scientific work to juries of scientists at professional conferences. He has earned recognition for his work in biological and medical research done at Abbott Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, and Altria Group, Inc. His scientific research has often been cited by other scientist in their scientific studies. After retiring, Mickey and Goldie moved to
Atchison, KS.
Mickey was active in the community while living in the Chicago area and while in Atchison. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served in several positions, active with his fraternity, KU Alumni, and other organizations. He loved jazz, dancing, the sports of golf, baseball, football, basketball, and boxing.
He is survived by his wife Goldie of the home; son Steven (Sheila) Brown, Montgomery, IL; granddaughters Autumn Stancel, Yorkville, IL, and Ava Brown, Montgomery, IL; brother Ron (Rosemary) Brown, Chicago, IL; sister Glynn Darlene Schmedes, Pasadena, CA; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother (John Tracy Brown).
Funeral services will be held on 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in
Atchison, Kansas, with Rev. Dr. Seante Ford officiating services. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in
Atchison, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atchison or to the
