Michaela Mickey Cerrillo

May 9, 1923 – February 28, 2024

 

Michaela “Mickey” Cerrillo, 100, of Wharton passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 28, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on May 9, 1923, in Wharton, Texas to the late Pedro and Manuela Martinez Aguilar.

 

Mickey lived most of her life in Wharton. She started working at Caney Valley Hospital and later, Gulf Coast Medical Center. She had over 50 years of service to Gulf Coast having never missed a day of scheduled work. After her retirement, she enjoyed working as a care sitter for many years, sitting with patients at their homes and in nursing homes. She married Fernando Cerrillo, Sr. and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1973. Mickey enjoyed her flower garden, working, being with family, and, dancing. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lupe Castro.

 

Mickey will be missed by her son, Fernando Cerrillo, Jr. and wife, Gloria, sister, Dora Campos, brother, Paul Aguilar, grandchildren, Melissa Castro Munoz, Fernando Cerrillo, III, Anthony Castro, Chris Castro, Terry Cerrillo, and Veronica Castro Bess, several great grandchildren, and  numerous great great grandchildren.    

 

 

Visitation will begin at 9am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, 2024 with funeral services following at 10am.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers are Anthony Castro, Chris Castro, Daniel Munoz, Terry Cerrillo, Mark Cerrillo and Nathan Cerrillo.
