Migel Elizabeth Elie departed this life on March 19, 2026 at the age of 66 after a long struggle with breast cancer. She died at the Carrollton Retirement Community. She was born on September 25, 1959 at Flint-Goodrich Hospital to Gerri Moore Elie and Lolis Edward Elie. A graduate of Benjamin Franklin Senior High School, she received her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University. After graduating from the Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Elie devoted her life to service primarily in the healthcare field, working at Chartres Pontchartrain Mental Health Center, Orleans Parish Public Schools and at various healthcare organizations. In 1999, she received a Master of Science from the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Public Health.

She is survived by her mother, Gerri Elie, her brother, Lolis Eric Elie, her nephews, Lolis Niriko Elie and Olajidé Tsarasoa Elie, and her sister-in-law, Béatrice Elie as well her aunts, Bobbi Anna Dantzer and Althea Hills and a host of cousins. A memorial will be held at Dillard University's Georges Auditorium, 2601 Gentilly Blvd on Saturday, April 4, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and a memorial at 11:00 a.m. Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are invited to participate in the Omega-Omega ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The family would also welcome pastors and members of Bethany United Methodist Church, Brooks Shaw United Methodist Church, Boynton United Methodist Church, Christian Unity Baptist Church, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and Broadway Missionary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Elie's family is asking that donations be made to the Benjamin & Yancy Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing screening, therapeutic services, and educational resources to those coping with breast and prostate cancer.
