Miguel Rust Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Sanderson Funeral Home & Crematory - Orem on Dec. 11, 2025.
Our beloved Miguel passed away unexpectedly and of natural causes in his home in Salt Lake City after suddenly becoming ill. Answers are slowly coming to us from the doctors as to what exactly happened. We are all heartbroken and in shock but we have felt confirmation from God that he was called home by his Heavenly Father for a purpose. The pain we are feeling is unbearable but it is a reflection of the immense love and pride we have for our amazing son.
Our beloved Miguel was born on a snowy morning on January 30th, 2001 at Utah Valley Regional Hospital in Provo, Utah, He forever changed the lives of his parents Richard and Pilar Rust. He was born with a full head of black hair, chubby cheeks and a very loud cry. He immediately stole the hearts of his entire family. Miguel grew up in Orem, Utah and is the older brother to his 3 adoring siblings: Natalie, Andre, and Lucas. When Natalie was born he kept begging mom to take his new baby sister back to the "hostipital." Despite some initial getting used to, he quickly became a caring brother and playmate to his sister and all his siblings to come.
Miguel was always shy, quiet, and unassuming and didn't want to be the center of attention. Over the years we became more aware of his incredible talents, intelligence, drive, grit along with insight on how important integrity was to him. In these early years his curiosity led him to conduct experiments disassembling mom's digital camera, digging out sprinkler pipes or putting grandma's leather chair as close to the
fireplace to see how quickly leather burns (he quickly found out). Throughout his school years he participated in many competitions ranging from computer programming, history, math, geography, and FBLA. One of these events was attending the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland, accompanied by his Mom and Grandpa Rust. They all had a great time touring the amazing sites in DC. He was the president of the FBLA club at MountainView
Highschool his Senior year and went to FBLA nationals in Texas and Washington DC two years in a row. During his Junior and Senior year he began his professional journey in Technology by landing a job as a Software Tester for Race Entry.
In 2019, he graduated from Mountain View Highschool and started his college education at Utah State University. Miguel earned a full tuition scholarship and was accepted into the Honors Program and as a prestigious Huntsman Scholar. During his 4 years at USU he continued working for RaceEntry as well as a Computer Science Tutor and he was hired as a Software Development Intern at BambooHR the summer of his junior year.
Miguel graduated from USU April of 2023 with two Bachelor degrees in Economics and Computer Science and accepted a Full Time offer from BambooHR. He was admired there by many and left a big mark. When Pilar got hired at BambooHR it was a very special time attending meetings together and talking after work. In September of 2024, after months of interviews and hard work, Miguel accepted an offer to work for Goldman Sachs in their Salt Lake City office. He worked there up until he passed away. Despite the challenging environment and the very hard assignments, he excelled and became an important part of their team. His coworkers describe him as a kind, hardworking, intelligent engineer that gave his all.
Miguel was the best big brother and always made sure he spent quality time with his 3 siblings. The first thing he did after graduating from college was buy a car and take his 3 siblings on a road trip that took them down to Southern Utah, Sedona, and Phoenix. They made some great memories they will never forget. He would often take his brothers to the movies, to trips to Lagoon, and out to eat. Miguel especially loved going to amusement parks with his family and riding roller coasters (one of his favorites was cannibal at Lagoon).
He loved shopping at Winco and always knew where the best deals were. He was frugal, driven, dedicated and a man of his word. All the material assets he gained through his short but very impressive and meaningful life are a special gift from him to his siblings that will go towards helping fulfill their dreams and goals.
Miguel is the best grandson and always took care of his grandma. Every Saturday he took time to visit, go to lunch with her, and help her with whatever was needed such as grocery shopping and helping her care for her dog Roxy. He loved our puppy Louis and would give him snuggles every time he came home.
Miguel had a deep passion for learning. He was always reading books, learning about current events and sharing what he learned with our family. We could always rely on him to get the most recent, accurate updates on global and local news.
OH OUR DEAR MIGUEL HOW MUCH WE LOVE YOU AND HOW MUCH WE ARE GOING TO MISS YOU! YOU WILL BE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER.
