With a twinkle in his eye and a witty quip always at the ready, William "Mike" Marcum made every day a little brighter for those who knew him. He passed away on January 9, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Carthage. Born on December 6, 1954 in Kansas City, MO, William was a spirited individual with a robust sense of humor, a love for all things NASCAR, and an uncanny ability to find the best deals at rummage sales. His electric personality was only fitting for his chosen career as an electrician, from which he retired in 2000 after many successful years with Marcum Electric in Joplin, Missouri.
In his retirement, William spent his time fishing, playing dominos, and engaging in friendly pool competitions at the VFW alongside his loving wife, Becky Marcum. The pair tied the knot on October 22, 1977, and their bond was as electric and enduring as the man himself. William's headstrong nature was as evident in his love for his wife and family as it was in the competitive spirit he brought to the Eagles Club of Joplin.
William leaves behind a loving and extensive family including his wife, Becky of Carthage; brother, Tim (Kim) Marcum of Carthage; nieces, Crystal Emory of Asbury and Amy Buckner of Joplin; nephew, Timothy (Aubrey) Marcum of Joplin. He also leaves behind his in-laws Robin (Randy) Jennings, Jona (Mike) Kresyman, Tom (Lisa) Ogle, John (Tina) Ogle, and Jason Ogle, along with several nieces, nephews, and other members of the family. He is preceded in death by his parents, W.G. and Dorothy Marcum.
Services for William will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, beginning with visitation at 9:00 am at Simpson Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am, and a graveside service at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
In the spirit of William's love for shared stories and laughter, the family invites friends and relatives to share photos and memories of William on his memorial page at www.simpsonfh.com. Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home. We invite you to remember William not with sadness, but with the joy and laughter he brought into our lives.
