Michael Jerome "Mike" McCann passed away on March 26, 2026, in Jefferson, Louisiana at the age of 78, surrounded by the love of his family and the many memories he created throughout a life marked by service, devotion, and kindness. He was born on July 20, 1947, in
Alexandria, Louisiana, to the late Eric and Mildred McCann. Mike lived a full and meaningful life, and those who knew him will remember him as a funny and loving man with a generous spirit and a heart that was always ready to help others.
Mike was the devoted husband of Cecelia Reyer McCann for 54 wonderful years. Their marriage was a lasting example of love, loyalty, and partnership, and together they built a family that was the center of his world. He was a proud and loving father to Christine Kerne and her husband Daniel, and Jennifer Fish and her husband Bill. He was also a cherished grandfather to Anna Elizabeth Fish and Alexander Michael Fish, who brought him great joy and pride. Mike treasured his beloved granddogs as part of the family, and he was deeply loved in return by a host of extended family members and friends who truly felt like family to him.
A proud Marine, Mike carried himself with honor, discipline, and quiet strength throughout his life. He later built a respected career in the petroleum industry and retired in 2012 from Petroleum Helicopters, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. His work ethic, leadership, and integrity earned the respect of his colleagues and reflected the same steadfast character he brought to every part of his life. Mike was also deeply involved in his church community and served as President of the Men's Club and Parish Council at St. Edward the Confessor. He was extremely active in St. Edward the Confessor functions and gave generously of his time, energy, and support to the parish community he cared about so deeply.
Outside of work and service, Mike enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life rich and memorable. He loved fishing, woodworking, carpentry, and running marathons. He approached each interest with enthusiasm and determination. He had a special gift for making people laugh and his humor brought comfort and joy to those around him. Mike was known for his kind heart and his willingness to do anything for anyone. He was the kind of man people could count on and his compassion left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Mike also found great happiness in the traditions of family life, especially around the table. His favorite food was spaghetti and meatballs and he loved making it himself, particularly after enjoying ice cream with his grandchildren. These moments reflected the warmth, playfulness, and love that defined him. He created memories that his family will treasure forever.
Those who knew Mike will remember a man of strong faith, deep devotion and genuine kindness. He was humorous and loving in the truest sense and steadfast in all that mattered most. Mike's life was a blessing to his family, friends, church, and all who crossed his path. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, service, laughter and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
