MATOAKA – Mike Runyon, 62, of Matoaka got his angel wings on Monday,
November 11, 2024. Born January 17, 1962 at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, he was the son the of the late Stonewall Jackson Runyon, Jr. and Bertha Jean Pendergrass of Matoaka.
Mike had life challenges and he enjoyed life to the fullest despite them. He enjoyed walking up and down his little country road with his mom and family members looking for his "treasures".
He loved the holidays and Christmas was his favorite. He really enjoyed watching Christmas movies and singing along with the songs. He especially enjoyed the Christmas tree and its decorations.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Stonewall Jackson and Mary Runyon, and McArthur and Catherine Gilley; step-dad, Mikey Pendergrass; and brother, Rex Runyon.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Bertha Jean Pendergrass of Matoaka; sisters, Nancy Dalton and husband Roy of Matoaka, Diana Schmalenberger and husband Dave of Rock, and Sharon Chaffin and husband David of Kentucky; brothers, Roger Runyon and wife Melba of Matoaka, Wayne Runyon of Winston Salem, NC, Roy Dale Pendergrass of Northfork, Darrell Pendergrass and fiance Stephanie of Princeton, and Lowell (Dino) and wife Janice of Rock; very special friend, Cathy Blankenship; and a host aunt, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Jerry Heaton, officiating. His special uncle, Alvin Gilley, will sing his favorite song "In His Arms I Am Not Afraid. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton.
Roy Pendergrass, Lowell (Dino) Pendergrass, Seth Pendergrass, Blake Pendergrass, Columbo Owens, Thomas Campbell, and Rodney Pendergrass will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 5:00- 6:00 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.bailey-kirk.com.
