Mike Arnold Sellers, 86, of Manor, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023.
Mike Arnold Sellers was born September 4, 1936 in Austin, to Logan and Ida Belle Hibbs Sellers. He attended Pecan Springs School, which was a one room school, teaching 1st – 12th grade. By 1949, the school only provided grades one through eight, so Mike went to WJHC University Jr. High School in Austin to continue his education. He then attended Austin High School where he graduated in 1953. There, he met Betty Kee, and they were married on October 10, 1954. Mike was always interested in livestock, so they tore down an old farmhouse on a 93-acre portion of the Hibbs land that Logan, his father, and Ida Belle, his mother, had bought from her father in 1947 and built their home. They used all the old building material from the old barn house to build their present home. There was an old log barn there also. They took it down and used the logs to build the present hay barn. Mike and Betty began raising cattle, hogs, and boys.
Mike and Betty had no refrigerator, no telephone, and no water in 1954. They began a unique hog operation where they were producing feeder pigs for sale, one of the 1st in Texas at that time. Mike was also working as an apprentice electrician as well as working with hogs, cattle, baling hay, and farming 12-to-14-hour days. Mike and his father, Logan, worked together on this land they called S-S. He began his electrical career at 17 years of age. Mike and his father also both worked in Austin as electricians. Mike bought B & B Electric in 1975. He received his 70-year IBEW, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, pin this past year.
He also proudly served his country in the Army Reserves for nine years from 1954 to 1963. Mike loved baseball and watching girls fastpitch softball. If the Astros or Rangers were on tv he was watching.
Mike was proceeded in death by his loving wife of over 65 years, Betty Sellers; and parents, Logan and Ida Belle Sellers.
He is survived by three sons, Larry Sellers of Manor, Mark Sellers and wife, Laurie, of Lampasas, and Curtis Sellers and wife, Lori, of Manor; grandchildren, Danna and Travis Parks of Salado, Calie and Sam Whitaker of Groesbeck, Larry Sellers, Jr. and Danielle of Leander, Clinton Sellers of Austin, Julie Sellers of Lampasas, and Bobby Sellers of Lampasas; 14 great-grandchildren, Maddie, Masie, Ellie, Emma, Miles, Peyton, Logan, Kamryn, Kadyn, Kole, Colter, Cutter, Logan, and Lyla; sister, Georgia Miller and Milton of Brady; and niece, Janice Miller.
Mike was a long-time member of the Elgin Church of Christ. Special thanks to Linda Garcia who was his amazing caregiver for the past 9 months and a blessing to him and our family.

I don´t think I knew Mike, however I heard of him because I knew his wife, Betty who visited her grandmother, Mrs. Crocker in Smithville each summer! Betty fell for this cowboy and gladly left the city of Austin to marry Mike and move to the ranch near Manor to be with Mike!
Sorry for your loss, but I´m sure Betty eagerly welcomed him after a long absence.
