Mike Thompson Obituary

Obituary
Mike Thompson, 68, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022 at his home in Aurora, Colorado.
Born in El Paso, Texas in 1954, he grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and received his Nursing certificate from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1975. He moved to Denver in 1989 and worked in the operating rooms at Presbyterian/St. Luke's. He later worked for himself as a Registered Nurse First Assistant assisting surgeons across the Denver area.
Mike always knew the best spots for good food and drink, and he could often be found behind the grill at gatherings sharing a joke or a story with friends and family. In recent years, he and Polly spent as much of the winter as possible at their second home in Sun City, Arizona.
He enjoyed playing golf at Meadow Hills in Aurora, and he also had a fondness for animals and traveling, especially to Hawaii. He made many wonderful friends riding his beloved Harley with the Rocky Mountain H.O.G. chapter and the Black Mountain Motorcycle Club in Phoenix.
Mike is survived by his wife of 22 years, Polly Thompson; son Dominic Thompson; granddaughters Jasmine Thompson, Santana Thompson, and Rain Thompson of Phoenix; siblings Barbara (Bert) Blackwell of Albuquerque, Tommy Thompson (Mary Jane Sak) of Las Cruces, Cheryl Thompson (Paul Hudson) of Albuquerque, and Rob Thompson of Houston; 15 nieces and nephews; and many in-laws and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Tommy and Gussie Thompson and wife Wendy McLean Thompson.
Mike will be remembered for his wry wit, engaging stories, fierce loyalty, laidback charm, and his uncanny ability to perfectly mix a Perfect Manhattan. His family would be delighted if you shared your memories of him and your photos on the Tribute Wall.
A celebration of his life in the Aloha spirit will take place at the Pelican Bay Marina at Cherry Creek in Denver on November 10 from 1-5pm. Please wear your Hawaiian shirts and come with stories as we raise a glass to a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate/memorial-giving.html - and the Denver Dumb Friends League https://www.ddfl.org/card-block-items/tribute-card - or the Mikey Tree Memorial (contact Helen Richards at 303-680-2722).
