Mikey Peterson
Michael (Mikey) Vincent Peterson passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 15, 2025, in his home in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Mikey was born on August 20, 1982, the last of his parents' four children, the last of his maternal grandparents' fourteen grandchildren, and the last of his paternal grandparents' thirty-six grandchildren. He was "Joy Boy" at home, and will always be a sonshine in our hearts.
As a young boy, Mikey was very social and especially comfortable around adults. He was privileged to act in a few movies: Lorenzo's Songbook Volumes 1 and 2, The Paper Brigade, and Split Infinity. He also made a commercial with Bo Jackson for the Children's Miracle Network and a couple of videos for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California San Diego area. He came home briefly to be treated for a serious illness. He served with his dad as his companion for three months, while continuing to accomplish incredible missionary work. Then he returned to California to complete his mission.
After his mission, his sweet cousin Janelle lined him up with his perfect match: Karie Lee Lasson, a true angel on earth. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 26, 2005, and recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Since the day they met, they have deeply loved and served each other. He was grateful for his eternal marriage to his angel sweetheart, Karie, and for their eternal family. They are faithful, devoted members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where Mikey served in many callings, including Bishop.
Mikey loved music of all kinds-especially James Taylor-and was known for the many "Mikey Mix" compilations he created. He was gifted with technical skills, which enabled him to successfully run his own business, MVP Digital Studios. He converted and catalogued hundreds of hours of family videos for his own family and others. Mikey was an ardent sports fan, especially of the BYU Cougars and the Utah Jazz, and he even hosted a podcast about the Jazz.
Mikey was a great friend and the kind of person who had a gift for knowing when people were at their lowest. He would give a listening ear, a "pep-talk," and provide supporting laughs and encouragement.
Mikey's health issues began early, starting with kidney stones when he was eleven years old. As he grew older, his health problems multiplied, and he spent most of his last twenty years in pain. Despite this, Mikey eschewed self-pity, choosing instead to lead his life with gratitude and empathy. While Mikey heroically pushed through years of illness, Karie remained by his side, selflessly serving and loving him through it all. It was not an easy life for him and his family, but they leaned on each other and the Savior for love and support.
Mikey truly loved his family more than anything. He loved having a family and being part of a family. Their home was filled with love, kindness, and faith. He loved being a dad and husband. His family meant everything to him. Even with his health problems, Mikey always managed to be a loving, fun, and thoughtful father. Almost daily, he would say, "Could anyone ever love their kids as much as we love ours?" His family would resoundingly answer, "No!"
Mikey is survived by his beloved wife Karie; his adored children Stockton and Meg; his parents Colleen and Russell Peterson Jr.; his siblings Michelle (Alain) Templeman, Rusty (Veronica) Peterson, Kerry Lynne (Spencer) Shaw; his in-laws Richard and Carol Lasson; dozens of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many, many friends.
