Milagro Santiago

Beloved wife, mother, and "Wella," Milagro Santiago, went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, on January 9, 1936, to the late Pablo Soto and Catalina Rosado, Milagro later made her home in Amsterdam, NY, where she lovingly dedicated herself to raising her family. She married her devoted husband, Luis "Pito" Santiago, on July 10, 1986, although their love story spanned more than 50 years before his passing in 2022. After his passing, she resided in Arizona, where she was cared for by her daughter, Luisa, granddaughters, and son-in-law.

Milagro was known as a woman of profound and unwavering faith, whose relationship with God shaped every part of her life. She began her mornings long before sunrise, praying over her loved ones before preparing food for the day and enjoying 'The Price is Right.'

Her days were filled with reading the Bible and sharing verses with everyone who stopped by to visit, sending them off with a reminder that "With God, all things are possible," along with a warm plate of rice. In the evenings, she could be found on the sofa beside her beloved Pito, watching 'Wheel of Fortune' and 'Jeopardy,' a simple joy they cherished together.

Milagro is survived by her children – Samuel Santiago, Ariel Santiago, Elmer Santiago, Delia Sitterly, Neida Santiago, Luisa Gonzalez, Rosemary Negron, Medalyn Gonzales, Nilda Gonzales, Jose Gonzales, Hector Gonzales – and their families; 44 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a large extended family and many friends who will forever remember her kindness and generosity and carry her memory in their hearts.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Luis; her sons, Daniel Gonzales, Ruben Robles, and Rene Robles; her sisters, Miriam and Noemi; and her parents.

A private service for the immediate family will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, NY.
