Mildred "Sugar Puddin" Fennell
March 29, 1951 – October 17, 2025
Mildred Fennell, affectionately known to many as "Puddin" and later as "Sugar Puddin," was born on March 29, 1951, in Seguin, Texas, to the late Herman and Gladys Fennell. From the very beginning, her life was filled with love, laughter, and family. Her daddy gave her the nickname "Puddin," and in her adulthood, she would be given the name "Sugar Puddin" by her love interest - a name that stayed with her for life.
Puddin grew up and spent most of her years in Seguin, Texas. She worked faithfully as a babysitter, a house cleaner, and later as a Certified Nurse Assistant. No matter the title or task, she gave her best - serving others with care, compassion, and pride. Her hands were never too tired to help, her heart never too full to love.
A woman of faith, Sugar Puddin accepted Christ at an early age. As the years went by, she found joy in attending church - being among God's people, singing the songs of Zion, praying with others, and hearing a word from the Lord that could strengthen her soul.
Family was everything to her. She lovingly raised two sons, Russell and Barry, and was blessed to also help raise a bonus daughter, Bridgett. Her children and grandchildren were her heart, and she loved them deeply. Puddin was the glue that held her family together - making sure the graves of loved ones were never without flowers, opening her yard for good food, good music, and a good game of dominoes. She was known for her sweet treats, her laughter, her dancing, and her ability to make everyone feel at home.
Those who knew her will remember her as a woman who cared deeply, worked hard, and knew how to enjoy life. She never took herself too seriously to have a good time.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Barry McKnight, her sister Joyce Clack, and her longtime companion Andrew Hill.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her son Russell Fennell (Jeannie); her sisters Dorothy Jones (Lonnie), Erma Fennell, and; her brothers Herman Fennell (Kelly), Ernest Fennell,(Debbie) Harvey Smith, and Jerry Smith (Diane) ; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever remember her love, her laughter, and her sweet spirit.
All our lives are much more sweeter because Sugar Puddin was apart of it.
Visitation will be Friday, October 31, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 609 S Guadalupe St., Seguin, Texas with interment to follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Seguin, Texas.
