Mid Cowan Buchanan, beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, entered the presence of Christ on January 22, 2026. She was born on April 10, 1953, to CJ Cowan and Patricia Ensley Cowan. Mid graduated from Sylva-Webster High School and Southwestern Community College. In 1971, she married Michael "Mike" Ray Buchanan, and together they raised two sons, Jake and Luke.
Mid retired in 2016 from Western Carolina University. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family, exploring local haunts, cooking, collecting recipes, camping, and reading. Her love for animals was evident in how she cared for her indoor pets and keenly observed outdoor wildlife. Her loved ones will dearly miss her kindness, curiosity, and sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband Mike Buchanan, her son Jake Buchanan and his wife Heidi, her son Luke Buchanan and his wife Beth, her sister Pat, her niece Cassie, nephews Blake and Brady, a grand niece and grand nephew.
