FAIRFIELD - Mildred "Millie" Carpenter, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Fairfield.

She was born in Sutton, NH on February 15, 1937 to the late Leslie & Clara (Dunham) Adams.

A beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished matriarch of the Carpenter family, Millie lived a life rich with love, hard work, and unwavering commitment to her family. She was proud of her role as historian for the Adams family. She started the annual family reunion held each July and took great pride in keeping track of the family tree. She was the heart and soul of the family, taking immense joy in the annual reunions where laughter and happiness reigned. "Gram" was always so proud of her grandkids and their accomplishments and supported them in every way she could.

Millie worked at IBM for many years and fostered a warm and welcoming home that was always filled with love, delicious cooking, and the delightful banter of competitive games. She excelled at everything she put her hand to - from her famous mac & cheese and peanut butter pie to her perfectly crafted homemade rolls, she was a culinary artist in her own right. Outside the kitchen, she dazzled everyone with her gardening skills and cleverly navigated through puzzles, card games, and board games - with her trademark yellow game piece! Her competitive spirit was legendary; she often emerged as the champion in the "Nickel Game," "Rummikub," or "Up and Down the Ladder," leaving us with countless fond memories of her triumphs and hearty laughter.

A devoted member of St. Patrick Church in Fairfield, Millie embraced her faith and community with grace and dedication, taking on multiple roles within the church, and supplying the members with blueberries. She embodied the spirit of service and kindness that defined her life. She truly was the most humble person any of us will ever know.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved family; son, Kevin Carpenter and his partner Bev, his children, Forrest Carpenter and his partner Kaitlyn, and Hunter Carpenter and his wife Sabrina and their children, Levi, and Layne; son, Mark Carpenter and his wife Jennifer, their children, Nicholas Carpenter, and Noah Carpenter and his fiancé Nicole; daughter, Mary Anne Clark and her husband Daren, her children, Adam Clark and his children, Brandon, and Sydney, Berkley Clark and his wife Meagan, and Kaitlin Leatherbee and her husband Daniel, and their children, Nora, and Lyra; son, Glenn Carpenter and his partner Michaelene, his children, Taylor Tetreault and her husband Jarid, Kristen Carpenter and her fiancé Keagan, and their child, Easton; daughter, Patty Fortin, her children, Bryant Fortin and his wife Bethany, and their children, Brayley, and Beckett, and Tyler Fortin and his partner Katie, and their child; Avery; siblings, Sherman Adams, Florence "Flossie" Powers, Leslie Adams, Muriel Lavoie, Franklin "Cookie" & Mary Adams, and Priscilla & Arnold Haydu; sister-in-law, Janice Adams; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Calvin Carpenter; siblings, Irene Adams, Eunice Blouin, Carroll "Jed" Adams, and Jimmy Adams; and siblings-in-law, Jeanne Adams, Gene Powers, Richard Lavoie, and Leona Adams.

Friends & family are invited to Millie's life celebration to include a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Church Rd., Fairfield, VT. Interment will be held at a later date in Binghamville Cemetery.

For those who wish, contributions in Millie's memory may be made to Franklin County Cancer Network or St. Patrick Church, P.O. Box 18, Fairfield, VT 05455.
