Mildred W. Cole, affectionately known as Mikki to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at her home in
Milan, Pa, on February 24, 2026. Born on July 11, 1948, in
Williamsport, Pa, Mikki's life was characterized by her unwavering compassion, her dedication to her family, and her commitment to her calling as a nurse.
Mikki was the loving wife of Larry E. Cole, with whom she shared nearly 55 years of marriage since their wedding day on April 17, 1971. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Mikki's legacy of love is carried on by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Reed Maryott, and her adored grandsons, Dillon and Gavin Maryott, who brought her immeasurable joy.
She is survived by her caring brother and sister-in-law, William and Marcia Waldman, her brother Emil Waldman, Jr., and Paul J. Waldman, as well as her sisters, Anne Louise Waldman and Mary Lynn Waldman. Mikki also leaves behind her husband's siblings, Joyce Crainey and Emma and Bob Beckwith, and her beloved nieces and nephews, among them Josh (Amy) Waldman, Amanda (Steve) Mallacoccio, and Logan Waldman. Her special friends Anja Miller, Bob and Deanna Thurston, Curt and Donna Thrush, will forever treasure the memories they created with Mikki.
Mikki was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Wilhelmina (Szybist) Waldman, her sister-in-law Meg Waldman, and brother-in-law Gerald Crainey. A proud graduate of Williamsport High School class of 1966, Mikki went on to receive her RN from Polyclinic in Harrisburg in 1969. Her professional journey as a Registered Nurse spanned over four decades, during which she served at Harrisburg Polyclinic, Williamsport Hospital, Tioga General Hospital, and Guthrie Hospice.
Mikki's Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through her journey. She was a member of the Epiphany Church in
Sayre, Pa and also held a special place in her heart for Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ridgebury. Her love for nursing was profound, and she often said it was not just her profession, but her calling. Mikki's gentle spirit was evident in the care she provided to her patients, particularly those in hospice care.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mikki cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandsons. She enjoyed reading, traveling to historical sites such as Gettysburg, Washington, D.C., and the New England States. Her kindness, gentleness, and loving nature defined her and made her a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her.
As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Mikki's love and the memories she created with those around her will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
