Mildred Henderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West Haven Funeral Home - West Haven on Mar. 30, 2026.
Mildred "Milly" Vincent Dorgan Henderson, 86, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, after a long illness. Born on December 26, 1939, in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mildred Vincent. Milly was a lifelong resident of West Haven and the fifth of eleven children. Milly dedicated her career to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at Soundview, Bentley Gardens, and later retiring from the West Haven VA Hospital. Outside of her profession, she was deeply involved in her community and family life. She served as a Brownie leader, was president of the West Haven Policemen's Wives Club, and was a familiar and beloved presence as the concession stand mom for the West Haven swim team. Most importantly, she was a devoted mother who proudly "drove the bus" for her three daughters throughout their lives. She found joy in life's simple pleasures-spending time at the beach, taking long walks, and dancing in the evenings at Savin Rock Park.

Milly is survived by her loving daughters, Kelly (Joe) Mueller and Colleen Scott. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Joseph (Lindsey) Mueller, Ali Scott, Hannah (Jimmy) Angelicola, Cooper Scott, Darby (Brian Ginsberg) Scott, Samuel Mueller, and Kaitlyn Norton; and a great-grandmother to Natalie, Joseph, Stella, and Grace. She is also survived by her sisters, Sister Joyce Vincent, Joan Puglia, Kathy Mulligan, and Trudy Festa; her brother, Jim Vincent; and her beloved dog, Dana. She was predeceased by her daughter, Maureen (2013); her husband, Jeff; her parents, Francis and Mildred; her brothers, Francis, Richard, and Robert; and her sisters, Elaine and Mary. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her sister Joan and brother-in-law Ralph, Bridget Furlow, and her caring neighbors Donna Marciano and Joanne Horodysky for their unwavering support, compassion, and care.

A memorial Mass will be held on April 18, 2026, 9:30am at St. John Vianney. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to West Haven Animal Shelter in her honor.
