Mildred Hlavacek Obituary
Mildred Blanche Hlavacek, 105 of Midland, died Tuesday evening, January 28, 2025 at Stratford Pines in Midland. She was born April 2, 1919 in St. Louis, daughter of the late John and Rose Smazenka. On June 30, 1945 she married Raymond Charles Hlavacek at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Midland. Mildred had been employed over 30 years with the Bullock Creek School District as a dietician and kitchen worker.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon (William) Wurtz of Midland; grandchildren, Katherine (Scott) Bontrager of Texas and Dawn (Michael) Hill of Midland; great-grandchildren, Jordan (Lauren) Dean of Illinois, Jessica (Austin) Kraska of Midland, Kelsey (fiancé Sam) Cone-Hill of Colorado, Jacob Dean of Bay City, and Ryleigh (fiancé Ethan) Hill of Midland; five great-great grandchildren, Henrik Kraska, Waylon Linton, Milada Kraska, Kinsley Dean, and Oakley Linton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Charles Hlavacek, a grandson Charles John Wurtz, daughter Nancy Cleaver, a brother Anthony Smazenka, and a sister Bessie Pavka.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2025 from the St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 207 Ashman Street, with Rev Fr. Thai Nguyen and Deacon Aloysius Oliver celebrating. Committal will take place in New Calvary Cemetery. Mildred's family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund. All of us at Ware Smith Woolever are honored the Hlavacek family has entrusted us with the care of their loved one.

Mrs. Hlavacek was on of a kind. I have been friends with her daughter, Sharon since grade school and when we were teenagers we drove across Benson Street bridge and removed parts from my dad´s Chevy Impala! Picked up the parts and headed to the Hlavacek `s. It wasn´t ten minutes later and Mrs. Hlavacek was out there in the driveway with a rubber mallet trying to pound the chrome back onto my dad´s car!!!! She had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed feeding us kids. She was a sweetheart!
