Mildred Magee Obituary

Mildred Thompson Magee, a native of Prairieville, LA and resident of Port Allen, LA, passed away on April 15, 2023, in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born in New Orleans, LA to Lizzie Roberson Douglas and Frederick Thompson on May 22, 1945. Mildred was a graduate of Prairieville High School and obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern University. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor and retired from Ascension Parish school system after nearly 40 years in education. Mildred was devoted to her family, church, and community. She held many positions within Christ Baptist Church, did mission work and served as recording secretary with the Fourth District Woman's Auxiliary, and was a former president of the West Baton Rouge Parish Woman's Auxiliary. Mildred was a member of many other organizations, and a founder of S.E.E.D. (Students Enriching in Educational Development) and a summer reading program. Mildred leaves a legacy of love, light, and service. She leaves a beloved daughter Shanna Magee; a brother James Roberson; a niece Keeshala (Brad) Robinson; two goddaughters Demetria (Eric) Mell and Lakeysha Smith (Derrick); two brothers-in-law Rev. Loranzo (Velma) Magee Sr., and Larnell (Bernette) Magee; three sisters-in-law DeElla Magee, Marjorie Magee, and Barbara Coleman Hayes, and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Burnell Magee, her parents Lizzie Roberson Douglas and Frederick Thompson and her grandparents Hillery Sr. and Henrietta Roberson. Visitation on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 3 - 5 p.m. at Halls Celebration Center located at 9348 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge, LA, 70807. A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Christ Baptist Church located at 6623 Highway 190 West, Port Allen, LA 70767 at 10 a.m. Service to follow at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Phillip Joseph will be officiating. Interment will be at Heavenly Gates Mausoleum of Baton Rouge located at 10633 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70807.
