Mildred Opal Miles, age 90, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on April 20, 2025.
Born in Shell Creek, Tennessee, Mildred was the daughter of the late Virgil and Berthe Miller. She was a woman of grace, warmth, and quiet strength who found beauty in the simple joys of life. Whether watching birds and squirrels from her garden, tending to her beloved flowers, or capturing the world through her camera lens, Mildred had a gift for noticing the little things that made life rich.
She had a deep love for nature, especially flowers and birds, and enjoyed photographing them throughout the seasons. A passionate gardener and enthusiastic antiquing companion, Mildred also had a lively spirit and a fondness for ballroom dancing. She took classes and often danced at events across the Tri-Cities area, bringing joy and elegance wherever she went.
Mildred’s love extended deeply to her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished time with her loved ones. Her Christian faith guided her life, and she was known for her kindness, patience, and gentle humor. She also had a special bond with her dog, Sheba, a loyal Basenji who was never far from her side.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Keith Miles (Cindy Wall), Marcia Buckles (Rick), and Steven Miles (Angela); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Ann Miles, and siblings, June Tate (Bob), Selma Faye Arnett (Leon), Frank E. Miller, and Hall Miller.
Mildred’s life was one of quiet wonder and enduring love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Special thank you to her grandchildren, Michael, Gabrielle, Emily, Matthew, Zachary, and Cody, for their loving devotion and care.
There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Lindy Richardson Cemetery, next to Morgan Branch FWB Church in Roan Mountain. Those attending are asked to please meet at the cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers include: Michael Buckles, Matthew Buckles, Zachary Miles, Cody Miles, and Curt Hutchison.
