Send FlowersURBANA - Mildred Addessa Stokes, 86 of Urbana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025. She was born Feb. 2, 1939, in North Lewisburg, Ohio, a daughter of Leah Mae (Stewart) and Bennett "Benny" Erwin.
Mildred was an avid gardener and also enjoyed sewing, crafts, crochet, solving crossword puzzles, baking and birds. She and her husband also enjoyed preparing meals for the Mechanicsburg High School football team prior to the football games.
She is survived by a son, James "Jimmy" J. (Susie) Mayo; daughters, Robin (Larry) Ferryman, Cynthia Everman, Amy Loveless and Carrie (Jim) Schaefer, 27 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a brother, Richard (Becky) Erwin; sisters, Patricia Paul, Rebecca (Harold) Blanton, Donnah Hensley and Vicki (Craig) Goltzene and a special friend, Margit Gustavsson, her Swedish pen pal.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Stokes; parents, Leah Mae and Benny Erwin; a sister, Shirley Wheeler; brother, Jack Erwin; sons-in-law; Ron Loveless and Dan Everman and brothers-in-law; Don Wheeler and Bob Hensley.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until noon Monday, Sept. 8, 2025 at the WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana with funeral services beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Fair View Cemetery, Mutual, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mildred A. Stokes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.
