Mildred Persson McCarthy Stokes, 89, of Holiday City, NJ, died June 26, 2012, in Owensboro, KY, at the home of her daughter, Patricia Kirn. She was born May 18, 1923, in Jersey City, NJ to the late Voltaire and Nancy Persson. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Toms River, NJ, had retired from Wardlaw Country Day School in Edison, NJ, and was a Lifetime member of Deborah Hospital in Brown's Mill, NJ and the Holiday City, NJ Woman's Club. Her favorite pastimes included visits to the casinos in Atlantic City, NJ, playing pinochle with friends and club trips with her NJ friends. She was also preceded in death by husbands, James A. McCarthy and Russell Stokes; sons, Richard McCarthy and James McCarthy; and a sister, Irene Curtis.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Kirn and her husband Doug of Owensboro; sister, Janet Heinrich of Marietta GA; brother, Charles Persson and his wife Connie of Hobe Sound, FL; step-daughters, Barbara Wille and her husband Carl of Boynton Beach, FL, Arlene Waterbury of Hampton Beach, NY; daughter-in-law, Karen McCarthy of Jackson, NJ; 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

A very special thanks to the wonderful care and comfort provided by Goldie Reed, Kay and Misty (Hospice), and Schley Cox. Also, to Welborn Florist for the flower gifts during her illness, and Nation's Medicine for the wonderful customer service. Your friendship and assistance the past months have been a blessing for the entire family. Thank You!

The services will be private. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory will be in charge of arrangements.
