Mildred Vernell Tannery, 90, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away Friday, April 28, 2023. She was born October 12, 1932 in San Augustine, Texas to Joseph "Joe" and Robie Fitzgerald McBride.
Surrounded by a large, strong and loving family, Mildred grew up in San Augustine where she was a member of McRae Presbyterian Church and graduated from San Augustine Highschool in 1951. She served as a bookkeeper for Kimbell Grocery Company after graduation, up until she married Cecil "C.W." Tannery of San Augustine, TX in 1956. She and C.W. then moved to Nacogdoches, Texas where she continued her education at Stephen F Austin State University, School of Business. Her pride and joy was her family and she devoted herself to her husband and two sons, Kent and Philip Tannery, as homemaker and manager of the family's rental properties. She was a daughter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas, served at times as bookkeeper of the McRae Presbyterian Church Cemetery Association in San Augustine, TX, a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches, TX and member of Piney Woods Country Club in Nacogdoches, TX.
From an early age, Mildred was always looking out for others, regardless of the impact it might have on herself. Her caring nature was dependable, and she would do whatever she could without thinking twice about it. She was a fireball of radiant energy that even her grand babies had a hard time keeping up with. Mildred loved cooking for her family and always made sure they ate right. Aside from her attentiveness to loved ones, she enjoyed playing golf and would never turn down a road trip with her dear friends and family.
Mildred is preceded in death by brothers, Arthur McBride and his wife Gloria, Doss McBride and his wife Lavelle, Dexter McBride, Elmer McBride and his wife Betty Lou and Preston McBride and his wife Maree; brother-in-law Murl Price and brother-in-law Albert Pike.
She is survived by sisters, Opal Pike of San Augustine, TX and Pearl Price of Lufkin, TX; sister-in-law JoAnn McBride of San Augustine, TX; sons, Kent Tannery and his wife Claire of Douglass, TX and Philip Tannery and his wife Diana of Nacogdoches, TX; grandchildren Kyle Tannery, Clayton Tannery and Valarie Clarke, Kristina Tannery, Colin Tannery; great-grandchildren, Karlee Tannery and Cadence Tannery; step-grandchildren, Collin Fuller, Karson Read and Heather Harris; step-great grandchildren, Fox Tatum, Tanner Harris, Jayce Harris, Emerson Harris, Nash Harris and many nieces and nephews.
