Mildred (Millie) Rita Gillespie Weber died peacefully in Horsham, PA, on September 19, 2025 at age 82. Millie was born in Philadelphia on February 12, 1943 to the late Thomas and Rita Gillespie (née Kline) and grew up in the Germantown neighborhood. After graduating from Little Flower High School, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia and taught elementary school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Millie made the difficult decision to leave the convent after seven years of service, wanting to start a family. While raising her children in the Philadelphia suburbs, she went on to receive her BA in Humanities from Neumann College and had a successful 20-year career in Human Resources at Johnson and Johnson. Millie had a fun-loving and generous nature, enjoyed socializing, and maintained close friendships. She was not afraid to laugh at herself and made others laugh as well, regaling them with amusing re-tellings of her adventures and misadventures.
Millie retired to Anderson, South Carolina with her husband Jerry, where she continued to have an active social life, enjoying coffee with neighbors and hosting and attending events with the ABC (Anderson By Choice) club. She loved swimming in Lake Hartwell and in her swim-spa, and was able to spend entire days in the water with friends, thanks to Jerry delivering lakeside meals! A generous soul, Millie was an active parishioner and had several volunteer pursuits. She taught English to Spanish-speaking families, visited the ailing and elderly, and participated in the Friendship Force International.
Millie was vivacious and loved to laugh. She was a tenacious advocate for those she loved, and was devoted to her friends, family, and her loving husband Jerry.
As noted, Millie is survived by her husband of 27 years, Gerald Weber. She is also survived by her three children, Michelle Cox of Providence, RI, Brian Cox (Leslie) of Horsham, PA and Tristan Cox (Mary) of Phoenix, AZ; as well as by her five brothers and sisters: Thomas Gillespie, Helen Raasch, Alice Piekielski, Walter Gillespie, and Joseph Gillespie. Millie had six grandchildren: Kiersten, Justin, Sheray, Lily, Cameron and Michaela, in addition to a large and loving extended family, and many dear friends.
