Miles Rodney "Rod" Hullette
January 17, 1953 - December 17, 2025
Miles Rodney "Rod" Hullette, born in
New Orleans, Louisiana, and later raised in the mountains of Kentucky and East Tennessee. He spent the majority of his life in
Surgoinsville, Tennessee. He lived life with a rare kind of intensity that was bold, unfiltered, and impossible to ignore. Rod didn't do anything halfway. He moved through the world with a restless spirit, a stubborn independence, and a presence that filled up a room without trying.
Rod left school early to serve in the United States Army, a part of his life he carried with quiet pride. Rod was never the type to be defined by labels, rules, or anyone else's expectations. He lived by his own code-sometimes rough around the edges but always real.
If you knew Rod, you knew he had a personality you couldn't copy and couldn't forget. He was rugged, funny, and fearless in the way he spoke his mind. He enjoyed good food, a good story, and doing things his way. He wasn't polished, and he wasn't trying to be. What you saw was what you got, and what you got was a man who lived loud and left a lasting impression.
Rod loved his brothers and sisters, and he loved his son, Brian with a strength that ran deep. And nothing brought him more joy than his grandson, Logan. Watching Logan play baseball and cheering him on by living every pitch, every hit, and every moment was when Rod's heart showed itself the clearest. Those ballfields weren't just where he spent time; they were where he was happiest.
Rod's legacy will be carried forward the way he would've wanted-through stories that make you laugh, shake your head, and say, "That was Rod." He lived hard, loved in his own way, and left behind a life that can't be summed up neatly because he was never meant to be neat.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Sandy Hullette, his grandparents, brother-in-law, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his son Brian Hullette, grandson Logan Hullette, sisters Cynthia Pelphrey (Tom), Connie Miller (Doug), and Rita Dykes, brother Alan Hullette (Krystal), and several Nieces and Nephews.
Rod will be remembered for his wild spirit, his unmistakable presence, and a life lived on his own terms. He may be gone, but the stories, the lessons, and the mark he left on the people who loved him will remain.
The family would like to thank Anya Holbert, Emory Ridge, and Gentiva Hospice-Knoxville for all they contributed to Rod's care. It is deeply appreciated.
We will be receiving friends at Johnson-Arrowood in
