Milford Light Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Feb. 2, 2026.
Heaven is officially on notice, and the Lord has His hands full, as Milford Light has rejoined cohorts Max Short and Robert Poe-the original pranksters.

Milford Ray Light, age 88, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on January 30, 2026, in Oklahoma City. Milford was born on March 29, 1937, and lived a life marked by devotion, ingenuity, humor, and quiet goodness. Above all else, he was devoted to his family and took deep pride in being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy Chism Light, with whom he shared a partnership built on loyalty, love, and steadiness. He was the proud father of Robert, Charles, and Jason, a cherished grandfather to Terri Bosnyak and her husband Barry, and devoted great grandfather to their sons, Henry and Oliver.

Milford spent his career in prepress and was the owner of Light Negatives, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and problem-solving ability. He retired after many years of hard work, having built a reputation for doing things right. To those who knew him best, Milford was the original gadget man-a proto-nerd before the word existed. He was often the first in the neighborhood to have the latest device, and if he couldn't buy it, he could build it. With a soldering iron and a pile of chips and boards, Milford could make just about anything work. If something was broken, people brought it to Milford-because Milford could fix it.

He had a lifelong love of auto racing, especially NASCAR, and was a fixture at Fairgrounds Speedway and dirt tracks throughout the region, including Devils Bowl, Lawton Speedway, 81 Speedway, and Tulsa Speedway, where friendships were made and stories were swapped for decades. Some of his happiest moments were found in simple routines: meeting friends for lunch, and taking his sons to Robert's Grill in El Reno for onion-fried hamburgers-a tradition he carried forward from visits there with his own father. These small, ordinary moments were among his greatest joys.

Milford was preceded in death by his parents, the Reverend Milford Z. Light and Helen Swartz Light; as well as his brother, Robert Allen Light; sister, Joyce Lemons; son, Robert "Bob" and daughter-in-law Valicia Neitzel Light. His half-brother, Wayne, lives in Ardmore.

Milford was devoted to his family, unfailingly respectful, and always funny. His family often remarked that he never uttered a curse word-not out of effort, but because kindness and self-control were simply part of who he was. He lived with dignity, humor, and was a steady presence that made others feel at ease.

A memorial service will be held at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany, Oklahoma, at 2:00PM on Friday, February 6, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the City Rescue Mission and/or OKC Regional Food Bank.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU doctors, nurses, and staff at Integris Portland, as well as the Congregational Care team at Crossings Community Church for their compassionate care and kindness.

Milford Ray Light will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and-no doubt-already up to something.

I was very sorry to hear that Milford had passed away. I went to Central High School with Milford. I would visit with him and Dorothy at some of our CHS Alumni activities and events, and found them to be a very nice couple. My thought and prayers go out to Dorothy and family.
