Milton Lowe Fontello, fondly known as "Fonze," or "Uncle Butch" passed away at home on July 13, 2025, at the age of 83 in
Smyrna, Delaware. Born on December 27, 1941, in Wilmington, Delaware, to John and Margaret Fontello. Milton was a man of exceptional character and high morals who lived a life rich in experiences and love.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, Fonze dedicated 31 years of his life to General Chemical, where his commitment and work ethic were as steadfast as his character. His hands, both strong and steady, also worked the waters as a crabber. Fonze and his dear wife Carol operated "Fonzie's pick'n house" from the late 80s to early 90s. professions that not only provided for his family but also brought him great joy.
Fonz's passions extended beyond his professional life into the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, taking great joy in teaching his grandchildren the patience and skill these hobbies require. His love for camping led him to create lasting family memories during trips to Virginia and camping.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Fontello, and his son-in-law, Chris Dunning SR. The legacy is carried on by his children: Margaret (Maggie), Sharon, and Angelo; his nephew John Riddle, who was more like a son to him; and his grandchildren: Rob, Chris JR, Pamela, Angelina, Chase, Dakota, and Emma. Fonz was also a proud great-grandfather to Sophia, Bentley, Cameron, Gabriella Smith, Emma Wood, Tristyn Keesser, Lucas Dunning, and Christopher H. Dunning.
Fonz was welcomed home by his siblings who preceded him in death: John, James, Richard, Robert, Shirley Williams, Beatrice Clark, Mildred Riddle, Eleanor Kimble, and Marie Fontello. Each held a special place in his heart.
His story does not end here, for his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him. Though he may be gone from our sight, the memories and lessons he left behind will remain with us forever. Milton's life was a beautiful reflection of the values he held dear, and his influence will be felt for generations to come. Rest in peace, dear Fonz. Your memory will be eternally cherished. As we say "see-you-later" to Milton Lowe Fontello, we honor a life lived with purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to family and country.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 11 AM to 12 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM. Burial with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
