Mina Craig Cooper

Mina C. Cooper, long-time resident of Bakersfield and Kern County for over 50 years has quietly succumbed to progressive dementia as a result of a severe fall in 2010. Mina was 96 at her passing on November 2, 2023. She was raised in the Upland/Ontario area and moved to Bakersfield in 1957 with her family, raising her four children. She was a well-regarded member of the First Congregational Church, League of Women Voters, and a continuing member of the Red Hats Society and the Moose Lodge in Tehachapi. Her 25-year career with the Kern County Aging and Adult Services culminated when she retired and began traveling the world. She had visited many of her favorite states and countries, family and friends in her adventures. Mina had many passions, one of which was education. She continued her college classes at Cal State Bakersfield towards her degree in the field of Gerontology and Aging. She also attended and ushered many of the 60+ Club events and concerts. She greatly enjoyed ballroom dancing, meeting her life partner, Robert Baker. They moved to Tehachapi for a quieter rural life, while continuing their passion of ballroom dancing and travel. Shortly after his passing, and due to her fall, Mina moved to San Diego to be closer to family. Subsequent injuries and surgeries resulted in memory care assisted living, eventually leading to her demise. Mina is preceded in death by her loving parents, her three sisters and many other cousins and close relatives. She is survived by her children, Pamela (Craig) Condon, Patricia Saylor, D. Craig Cooper, Sandra Cooper-Campbell, nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Mina's smile, zest for life and wry sense of humor will be greatly missed. Her generosity and thoughtfulness was extended to and received by so many who knew and loved her.
