Minerva Florence Espy

Minerva Florence Espy, of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on August 13, 1933, in Coffee County, TN, she was the beloved daughter of the late Nath Alford and Lucy Finley Alford. A talented seamstress by trade, Minerva spent her life creating beauty not only through her work, but also in the way she cared for those around her. She had a passion for sewing, gardening, and making stunning floral arrangements. Her home was always filled with the warmth of her cooking - especially her unforgettable breakfasts, which were loved by all who gathered around her table. Minerva cherished her family deeply, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by their laughter and love. She also had a fondness for Opryland and treasured the memories made during a family trip to Dollywood. Minerva is preceded in death by her loving husband, John H. Banks; her son, Jerry Banks; her siblings Tom Alford, George Alford, Billy Alford, Marion Alford, Bobby Alford, two infant brothers; and her sister, Annie Ruth Prater. She is survived by her children Joann Thomas of Manchester, TN, Sheila McCurry of Manchester, TN, and John D. Banks of Bradyville, TN; her grandchildren Amy (Marc) Rutledge, Jeremy (Rick) Banks, Rodney (Jennifer) McCurry, Cody McCurry, and Stephanie (Daylon) Corneilson; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Mary Johnson of Woodbury, TN, and her brothers Henry (Carolyn) Alford of Woodbury, TN and Donnie (Jan) Alford of Jackson, TN. Visitation will be held at Manchester Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will take place at Amity Cemetery in Woodbury, TN. Manchester Funeral Home is honored to serve the family during this time.
