I am so sorry for your loss. We were shocked to hear the terrible news. Vicky and I were out of town visiting family, and once we returned we were notified of Mims passing. I wish that we could have been there with all of you during this time.

Hi Denny, Carolyn, Tom, & Mark. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in all being together during this most difficult time. My memories of your mother specifically and each of you are some of the best of my younger years. Forgive my rambling as I go down memory lane. It is helping me process this loss and I hope it brings some warmth to you as you realize we all go on in the memories of others. I can remember traveling to your house on "Oliver" or "Penn" - the house with the blue or gray shake siding - and playing with a big red plastic bat in the backyard with family and neighbors or visiting "Pinky" with Mark etc... Then there was the sadness that you were moving to Duluth and the hope of reuniting with friend on those trips up to Duluth. The many trips to and sleep-over’s at your final home in Bloomington on Abbott, playing an updated version of neighborhood tennis ball baseball with Mark and his friends such as Tom Kurvers. I remember your beautiful tortoise shell cat (Sparkles?) who hated when I tried to pet her. Attending Family weddings was interesting in the 70’s with the “colors” that we have really not seen since. Later, I would frequently be driven by Denny on the MTC lines as I traveled back and forth to the U of M. Later, when I was a young teacher, I would periodically see Tom when he lived in Burnsville. I loved talking with him. He has such a calming, warm personality, much like Mim and Denny always displayed toward me. Finally, I would spend several years seeing Mim at a camp snoopy restaurant (Knotts) that my kids loved when they were younger. I thank you all for making me always feel like family. You are all such wonderful people and I have such clear memories of each of you that are so very special. I am thankful that Mim and my mother (& Denny and my father and Mark and I) got along so well. Mim was my mom's very best friend and I considered Mark mine as well. Unlike Mark and me, Mim and my mom never lost touch. They have been through just about everything together even if it was often, in these later years, only through their infamous marathon phone calls that were legendary for 52+ years. Just think, all those years with NO call waiting and the fact that those phone calls would last for hours. They had an amazing friendship. I have so many memories of Mim. She and Denny were such a wonderful couple. They brought balance to each other. Mim was the first person I saw drink tea. I am a big tea drinker today and I attribute that to seeing her drink it and then trying it myself. I still get the same Lipton tea she used to get when my mom and Mim would sit together for hours at the kitchen table and discuss all of the things they must have left unfinished from the previous phone conversation. Mim and Denny use to serve Milk in those steel glasses when I slept over. I was never a milk fan but cold milk in those cold, steel glasses was a wonderful experience. So many more fond memories are spilling out of my mind. Your mom was a wonderful, kind, considerate, humble, and friendly person. She will be deeply missed. I am selfishly sad for all of us that she is gone from us here on Earth. I pray we will get to see her again if were all lucky enough to reach Heaven. She will be waiting there to greet us. I can’t wait to have a cup of tea or a cold glass of milk with her. All my love, Kevin Engstrom

You all have been in our prayers the last week. Mim was such a great friend to my mom. Their phone marathons were amazing. Mim will be greatly missed. I just had some pictures made from my wedding of Denny, Mim and my mom and then one of my mom and Mim. I will send them to Denny. I know my mom is very thankful that she and my dad were able to visit with Mim and Denny in February. We continue to pray for you all and hope you can find peace and strength through friends, loved ones and sharing memories of Mim.
Love,
Barb (Engstrom) Gustafson
