Miriam Peeples Thames, 84, wife of Grady D. Thames of Beaufort, SC passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, 11:00 am at The Baptist Church of Beaufort with the funeral to follow at 12:00 noon in the church. Burial will immediately follow at Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
Miriam was born on December 20, 1940 in Savannah, GA. She is the daughter of the late Hurley Otis Peeples and Geneva Tuten Peeples. She graduated from Beaufort High School and was pleased to have had worked at Edwards Department Store and with the Beaufort County School District for many years.
Miriam was well known for her knitting, embroidery and alterations skills which required her keen and tenacious attention to detail. Miriam knitted countless wool socks, scarves, sweaters and blankets for her friends, family and her beloved church's ministries.
Miriam loved to travel with her family. She had the pleasure of serving her Lord and Savior working on mission ministries in Alaska, Belgium and various other locations around the eastern United States. She was dedicated to her church and serving others.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 65 years, is her daughter Diane Smith (Marshall) and son Gentry Thames (Diane); sister, Joanne Stanley (Carl), and two half-brothers, Thomas Peeples (Connie) and Craig Peeples; four grand children, William Smith, Courtney Thames, Chandler Thames (Eva) and Chesney Thames; and three great grandchildren, Loretta, age 4, Grayson, age 1 and Hank, age 6 months, all of whom she adored and of whom she was exceedingly proud.
The family respectfully suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to her church, The Baptist Church of Beaufort, Capital Improvements Fund.
