Mirko Ivanovich Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Downers Grove on Jul. 31, 2024.
Mirko Ivanovich, 93 of Westmont, at rest July 29, 2024. Beloved husband of Davorka (nee Bogdanovic); loving father of Diane Rose, Donald Mark (Christina Lanese) and Jennifer Mira (Branden Adams); loving grandfather of Lucija Mila and Ileana Lyda Adams; brother-in-law of Anda Ivanovic; fond uncle of Lucija Matkovic and Damir Ivanovic. Born in rural Croatia between World Wars I & II, Mirko surmounted many challenges growing up in a poor, war-torn country. He was the youngest of 11 children in his family. Mirko first immigrated to France and eventually to the United States of America in 1961, where he met his wife of 58 years, Davorka. He worked with dedication as a tailor for Hart, Schaffner & Marx for 34 years. Fittingly, he was always well-dressed and paid close attention to quality and detail. As a father, he led by example, instilling values of hard work and prioritizing family. Mirko was stoic, stable and notably witty as was often witnessed at the family dinner table, resulting in tears of laughter. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed watching birds and other wildlife, caring for his garden and property, construing resourceful repairs to whatever was broken and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. He was an active participant in the Croatian American Community and held his faith in God close to his heart, until his dying day. Mirko will lie in state Thursday August 1, 2024 from 10-11:30 A.M. followed by an 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Jerome's Croatian Catholic Church 2823 S. Princeton, Chicago. Interment to follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cappetta's West Suburban Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Westmont. Info 630-852-8000 or westsuburbanfh.com
