Misty Jo Harper, on Thursday night, December 21, 2023 went to go be with her dad, Douglas Harper, in heaven at her home in
Greeley, Colorado. Misty was 40. Misty was a loving, caring mother, daughter, sister, aunt and granddaughter. Daughter of Douglas Harper and Sandra Harper (Florian), Misty was born April 15, 1983 in
Brush, Colorado. In her early years started her life in Colorado and moved with her parents to Newkirk, Oklahoma. While living in Newkirk, Oklahoma as an infant She was experiencing seizures. She was diagnosed by a doctor in Ponca City, Oklahoma with Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare multisystem autosomal dominant genetic disease that causes non-cancerous tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, liver, eyes, lungs and skin. A combination of symptoms affecting her entire body. TSC affected her throughout her life from seizures to kidney problems to lung problems. Her overall health was affected. But she did not let that stop her growing up. She tried everything and we had to be careful at times, but she was a city girl in blue jeans and a ponytail in her hair, living life. Misty, will always be in our hearts, in our thoughts and deeply missed. April 12, 1987, Misty was joined by a sister, Audrey Jean Harper real close to her fourth birthday. She got to celebrate it with the nurses in the hospital where her mom was after having her little sister. She loved her little sister. As she got older and was able to get in Misty's things and cause havoc then the sibling rivalry started. Lol. After her sister was born, the family moved to Fort Morgan where they lived until Misty was a fourth grader. They then moved to
Greeley, Colorado where they lived with their mom for 15 years. Misty gave birth to two wonderful children; a son, Tobin Benjamin Dhooge and daughter, Michelle Jennrie Dhooge. For a time after Misty had divorced, the children lived with their father. In 2023 first Michelle went to live with her mom and then later on Tobin went to live with his mom, they lived in Greeley. Some of Misty's favorite things to do were, she liked to write poetry, draw, mostly pictures of suns, dancing and singing, and most of all her family time with her kids. As a toddler, when trying to avoid getting discipline from Mom just as mom was ready to reach down and get her. She did a butt drop to the floor which made her Mom laugh and it was hard to be serious about the discipline. Misty also earned a nickname when she was an infant/toddler of Messy Jo, she loved SpaghettiOs her mom would sit her in her little bouncy chair with the tray in her diaper and spaghettiOs were all over her. That's where she got the nickname Messy Jo. Some of her children's memories are: Michelle said when her Mom danced around listening to music then when "Party in The USA" came on she would grab a Christmas wrapping roll and dance in front of my brother at Christmas time. Michelle's fondest memory is when she was little and her mom would sing her songs while she was brushing her hair then she would read a prayer she got from her grandma Dalrie to get her to go to sleep. Tobin said, "My mom was probably one of the silliest people I know because when she is doing chores, I could always hear her dancing and singing to Mariah Carrie, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift. One of my favorite things to do with her was going out for a walk or eating out. My mom might have not been the greatest over the years, but she never stopped putting in effort for me to come live with her. I'm so glad I decided to go live with her when I did, to reconnect or I would've missed all the fun memories we had together during our time together. I'm so glad she can go visit Papa now, but I wish she was still down here with us."
