Dennis Mitchell "Mitch" Grainger, age 67 of
Foley, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, February 9, 2026 at Baldwin Health Hospital in
Foley, Alabama with his children by his side. He was born October 6, 1958 to Harold Oliver and Barbara Ann Johnson Grainger in
Kansas City, Missouri.
Mitch, the second of four children, went to school in Liberty, Missouri for three years before moving to
Butler, Missouri. He continued his education and graduated from Butler High School in 1977. While in school, Mitch played football, baseball and was a member of the FFA. Always up for a laugh or a dare, he often found himself in the office of Mr. Ed McCrell (the principal at that time). In 1979, Mitch was united in marriage to Carli Jo Styron and to this union three children were born. Then in 1999, he moved back to Missouri and started his own business, Old Glory Flying Service LLC. Mitch married Joyce Ann Hannah in 2003.
Growing up on the farm with his siblings, Mitch learned the principles of hard work, while church taught him the value of trust and faith in God's word–both of which served him well over the course of his life. His life occupations of flying and trucking gave him the opportunity to see the country from ground and sky. Mitch made many lifelong friends all across the country… including Canada. As a proud, loving father and grandfather, he frequently told others about his kids' accomplishments and the people they were becoming. He thought being "paw paw" was the best thing in life. Mitch had a great sense of humor, loved to play the harmonica, watch old television shows and could name all the old country singers and their songs. As his health began to fail, he moved back to Foley to be near his children and grandchildren. Mitch enjoyed his last years babysitting and celebrating birthdays and holidays with them. For 12 years he attended the Abiding Love Church under the direction of Pastor CJ McBride.
Mitch is survived by two sons, Justin Mitchell Grainger and wife Maria of Lavon, Texas and Joshua Michael Grainger and wife Lauren of
Foley, Alabama; one daughter, Jennifer Zink and husband Scott of Vancleave, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Jace Grainger, Jaelyn Grainger, Caleb Grainger and Madison Zink; mother, Barbara Grainger of
Butler, Missouri; one brother, Mike Grainger and wife Pam of
Butler, Missouri; two sisters, Lisa Evans and husband Bobby and Mitzi Grainger and Tux all of
Butler, Missouri; and numerous nephews, nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces. Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Harold Grainger and a niece, Jessica Leann Evans.
