Joseph Aaron Grainger, 64, of
Lakeland, Florida, passed away on February 1, 2026, in Bartow, Florida. Born on September 24, 1961, in
Winter Haven, Florida, to the late Lilla Maria Jones and James Burton Grainger. Joseph lived a full life marked by warmth, connection, and simple joys. He grew up in Florida and resided in places including
Mulberry, FL;
Lakeland, FL; Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; and Fairfax, Virginia.
Joseph married Shelly Ann Homann on December 31, 1984, in Fairfax, Virginia, and they shared over four decades of love and partnership.
A devoted Christian, Joseph had a remarkable gift for connecting with everyone he met-he could talk to anyone and make them feel at ease and valued. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying both freshwater and saltwater pursuits whenever he could get out on the water.
He was a lifelong, die-hard Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, supporting the team since its inception. Joseph also loved history, particularly anything related to World War II, and was an enthusiastic collector. He was a talented home cook who took great pride in preparing meals, with his specialties being perfectly fried chicken and hand-cut French fries. At the age of 57, Joseph proudly earned his G.E.D., a testament to his determination and love of learning. Above all, he cherished his family, his friends, and his faith in God.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly Ann (Homann) Grainger of
Lakeland, FL; his son, Christopher Aaron Grainger and daughter in law Mercedes Grainger of
Lakeland, FL; his grandchildren, Lilla J. Grainger, Jones L. Grainger, and Meris A. Grainger, all of
Lakeland, FL; step father, Monroe Harris of North Carolina; his siblings Roger Grainger, Stanley Grainger, Judy Fellenz, Debra Taylor, and Rebecca Riepl; and his beloved pet, Peaches.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Burt Grainger and Larry Grainger.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 4:30 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home. Pastor Bill McCabe will officiate.
Joseph will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for his kind heart, infectious smile, and unwavering love for those around him.
