Mitchell Howard Bixby

Mitchell Howard Bixby, recently of Carnesville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 17. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Judy Bixby, his 3 children, Lorne & wife Maureen, Kelly & husband Ian, and Nathan, as well as 2 grandchildren, Sarah and William.

Born in Kentucky where he spent summers playing on his grandparents' farm with his brother, Doug Bixby, and cousins, Mitch and his family moved to Norfolk, Massachusetts where he played on the high school ice hockey team and helped his friends work on their cars at the racetrack. Mitch and Judy raised their family in Lunenburg, Massachusetts before finally settling in Carnesville, Georgia to be close to their grandchildren.

Mitch would do anything for his family, except readily admit when he was wrong. He put his all into everything he did, from loving his family to his various hobbies over the years. Teaching his son to fish didn't just involve a pole and some worms in the nearby lake. The proper lures needed to be selected, and the best spots to steer the boat to had to be determined, whether drilling through the ice on a frozen lake or fishing the Nashua River. Another son's photography interest resulted in an at-home darkroom. He didn't just teach his daughter how to change a tire, but the brakes and disc rotors as well. His wife's cake decorating side hustle often saw him cutting out the perfect sized cake board and figuring out the correct height and placement of dowels to properly support her creations, as well as figuring out how to transport the cakes once completed. His own interest in barbecue resulted in multiple homemade smokers and an unmatched sauce.

Mitch was someone you knew without a doubt you could depend on, even as he drove you crazy trying to learn everything he could about a task to be handled. There was no one better to reach out to with a "Hey Dad, how do I ...?" question. Mitch will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Visitation hours for Mitch will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Townsend, Massachusetts (250 Main Street - Route 119, Townsend, MA 01469) on Friday, January 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. with a memorial service at the same location on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 AM. Mitch will be interred in Lunenburg's South Cemetery in the spring, at which time his family will hold a celebration of life barbecue to give him a proper final send off.
