Mitchell Diltz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Janssen’s Mat-Su Funeral Home - Palmer on Jul. 7, 2025.
Mitchell was born at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, AK. He spent his first two (little person) years with his family in Anchorage before moving to Palmer, AK in 2003. Mitchell attended Parentshare Preschool in Palmer, Pioneer Peak Elementary, Colony Middle School and Colony High School. From a very young age, Mitchell loved playing hockey, following in his older siblings' footsteps. As he got older his passion for hockey grew as well as his skills, eventually becoming a very solid hockey player and also considered by some as a "Master Chirper", verbally razzing an opponent, referee, teammate, sibling, friend, and occasionally a parent, which sometimes landed him in the "applicable" penalty box. Mitchell followed in his Uncle Jerry and his older brother Joseph's footsteps, learning to weld during his junior and senior years and he often spoke very highly of his two shop teachers who we believe helped Mitch not only with this welding but also with Mitchell's path to becoming the young man we all loved. Mitch really enjoyed welding (fabricating from scratch), having recently completed a custom truck ladder rack and large gate for one of his close mentor's and friend. As a young adult, when Mitchell wasn't working, he really enjoyed playing golf with friends and colleagues, or a trip up the river to his family cabin, or out to Big Lake to visit family there. In the Winter months, Mitchell enjoyed riding snowmachines and seemed to have a similar passion as his dad, for the occasional "need for speed" runs to the family cabin. When Mitchell wasn't outside enjoying Alaska, he was most likely with friends and/or family playing poker, cribbage, euchre, canasta and the once or twice a year "guess the song/artist" game that his dad had started with the family years ago. Mitchell made and had many great & loving friends, teachers, coaches, supportive adults and "second" parents throughout his life and requested that you all remember the good times that you shared with him. Mitchell is survived in death by his parents Chris and Gwen Diltz, his sibling's Sara Diltz, Collin & Hope (Diltz) Pennington, and Joseph & Natalie Diltz, his grandparents Ruth Diltz (Grammie), Del and Ann LaRue (Nana & Papa), his aunts and uncles Jerry & Courtney Diltz & April and James Ohlinger, his cousins Timothy, Myles, Ashleigh & Lilly, his niece and nephew Violet and Oliver. Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandfather Ronald Diltz and his Aunt Chandra Diltz. Mitchell will be laid to rest at the Palmer Cemetery, "next to the old bike tracks" per one of his last requests. A marker will also be placed at the family cabin on the Yentna river. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an organization of your choice that supports those affected by, or any programs that provide support to – mental illness, depression, suicide prevention, alcoholism, & crisis recovery. Our family sincerely appreciates any & all of you that helped/shared in Mitchell's life.
