Mitchell Walter Garwolinski passed away September 19th, 2025. Mitchell was born in 1932 in Baranowo Poland to Joseph and Mary (Zientak). After his family immigrated to the United States, they settled in Elyria OH. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States army during the Korean War he served valiantly add pork chop hill where he sustained multiple injuries.

"Medal Of Honor Candidate Lauded"
"In a closed session today the armed service committee heard testimony on a proposed congressional Medal of Honor for Sergeant Mitchell W Garwolinski of Ohio chairman Mendel Rivers ( D_ S.C revealed). The principal witness before the committee was Sergeant Garwolinski's former commanding officer army Capt. William Myers, sponsor of the proposal. Captain Myers briefed the committee on the details surrounding Sergeant Garwolinski's heroic activity on the day he exemplified himself. Stating that Garwolinski was the most courageous man who ever served under his command, captain Myers said that under heavy enemy fire Sergeant Garwolinski knocked out three machine gun nests and single handedly dragged nine of his comrades out of a minefield even though he himself severely wounded. Throughout this ordeal and exposing himself to heavy enemy fire and almost certain death Sergeant Garwolinski held his position for nearly seven hours until the arrival of reinforcements.
Captain Myers emphasized that not only did Sergeant Garwolinski save the position for the American side he also saved many American lives, an action that was well above and beyond the Call of Duty.
It was pointed out that Sergeant Garwolinski already holds the distinguished service cross 2 Silver Stars the Purple Heart and several other citations congressman rivers recalled the ceremony at the White House when President Eisenhower decorated Garwolinski with the DSC. "You couldn't help but be real proud of this gutsy little guy "Rivers said."
Mitchell is survived by his sister Sophie Ferguson and his Brother Andrew Garwolinski.
Arrangements are being made to be inurned Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
