Mitchell Alexander Obituary
Alexander - Mitchell S., 61, of Dix Hills, NY, passed away on October 29, 2024. He was a devoted husband to Marie; and a loving father to his three daughters, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Victoria. Mitch was a visionary leader in information technology as well as an inspiring manager and cherished colleague and friend. He graduated summa cum laude from New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Technology in electrical computer engineering, as the class valedictorian. He went on to achieve a Master of Science in software engineering from National Technology University with high distinction. He was a member of the faculty at the NTU School of Engineering & Applied Science at Walden University. Early in his career, he designed one of the first Manufacturing Execution Systems. From 1998 to 2000, he was the owner and Chief Technology Officer of Next Generation Systems, providing customer hardware and software designs and service to small and medium-sized businesses. He joined Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corp. in 2000 as Manager, Digital and Software Design. In 2006, he was promoted to his most recent role as Chief Information Officer and Information Security Officer, transforming Spellman's enterprise planning, shop floor control, and global communications networks into competitive advantages. His early recognition of the vulnerability of IT process led him to achieve the highest standard of security - ISO 27001 for Spellman. Through his focus on data integrity, he transformed Spellman's digital infrastructure, also turning it into a competitive advantage. Throughout his professional life, Mitch was someone who loved challenges, introducing new concepts and technologies, and sharing his deep knowledge of his field in simple terms. He was known for his calm demeanor, intellectual integrity, and ability to achieve high levels of trust with all those who had the benefit of knowing him. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and community. Among many interests and hobbies, Mitch was a softball manager and coach and a published author. He had recently published "Penny Porter - The Pitcher from Pine Hills" and "Full Ride: How to Pick a College & Score an Athletic Scholarship" and was a featured author for Fastpitch Magazine. He especially loved restoring his 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. We will long remember the treasured memories of time spent together.
