Mitchell Schlecter Obituary

Mitchell J. Schlecter (Mitch), 83, of Coconut Creek, FL and Franklin, MA, passed away peacefully at home in Franklin, MA surrounded by his family on May 28, 2024, following his battle with chronic kidney disease.
Mitch was the son of Ruth Schwartz Schlecter and Samuel Schlecter. Born in Bronx, New York, March 9, 1941, he grew up in the Bronx, and raised his family in Rockland County, NY and New Fairfield, Connecticut. Mitch was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and an industrial arts/special education teacher in New York City.
Mitch loved sitting in the sun with his beloved dog Mack, talking about vintage cars, finding deals, enjoying Chinese food and catching up with friends on the phone. He also enjoyed researching new automobiles, watching cowboy movies and debating the upcoming election. Mitch's son-in-law tried to convince Mitch to give him his proxy for the 2024 election, but he expressively refused. Mitch's mind was as sharp as a tack until the end.
Mitch was quite the character. He was strong-willed, stubborn at times, and got on people's nerves, but he also had a larger-than-life personality and an enormous heart. He will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. Mitch was generous and loyal. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.
Mitch is survived by his wife, Kristin Schlecter of Franklin, his brother, Peter Schlecter and his wife, Michele Cohen-Schlecter of Coconut Creek, FL, his daughters, Marcy Keohane and her husband, Dan Keohane of Franklin, MA, and Jill Masur and her husband Shawn Masur of Davie, FL, his grandchildren Drew Keohane and Maia Keohane, predeceased by his grandson Jack Keohane of Franklin, MA, his niece Sivan Schlecter and her wife Julie Bolcer of Brooklyn, NY, and nephew Ari Schlecter and his partner, Kevin Costello of Atlanta, GA.
Mitch's canine companions were dear to him. Mack has stayed behind with Kristin. Ellie and Rayla have stayed behind with Marcy, but Barley, Lexi, and Jonah are on a long walk with Mitch now.
Mitch was known for his hilarious stories. If you feel so moved, reach out and share your favorite story of Mitch with us. We would like to create a book full of his stories.
In typical Mitch fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance.
