Mitzi Burgher Obituary

Mitzi Lou Burgher, age 91, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026. Mitzi was born on January 15, 1935, in Charleston, West Virginia, where she was raised and spent her early years, the daughter of a grocer and generous local businessman.

As a young woman, Mitzi met the love of her life, Ottis Burgher, at the age of 15. That early meeting grew into a loving, lifelong partnership; they were married for more than 63 years. Together, Mitzi and Ottis built a life grounded in faith, devotion, and mutual support.

As adults, Mitzi and Ottis moved to Pontiac, Michigan for his work in the ministry serving the Church of God. Eventually they made their home nestled in the picturesque mountains of Roanoke, Virginia, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service. Mitzi was a devoted minister's wife who supported her husband's calling with grace, humility, and steadfast devotion. Her home was always welcoming, and her life reflected the faith she held dear.

In addition to her role in the church, Mitzi was a business owner and a creative spirit. She created beautiful silk flower arrangements, turning her artistic talent into a business that brought beauty to homes, churches, and special occasions. Her attention to detail and love for her work were evident in every arrangement she made.

Mitzi was a loving and devoted grandmother who was generous with her time and attention. She cherished her family deeply and took great joy in bringing everyone together, hosting the entire family each year for Thanksgiving. Those gatherings created some of her family's most treasured memories and will be remembered fondly by all who shared her table.

Above all, Mitzi will be remembered for her gentle nature, strong work ethic, and deep love for her family. She had a calming presence and a quiet strength that made others feel comforted and cared for. Her legacy is one of love, faith, generosity, and service to others.

Mitzi was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Chesleigh Hunicutt; her mother, Rada Marcella Hunicutt (née Cunningham); her husband Ottis Lyle Burgher, her siblings; and her daughter, Kimberly Ann Bradshaw.

She is survived by her son-in-law, James Bradshaw of Gaithersburg, Maryland; her son, Ottis David Burgher and his wife Phyllis of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her daughter, Sarah Beth Burgher Yearout of Roanoke, Virginia. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Jennifer Burgher, Melissa Burgher, David Tyler Burgher, Heather Burgher, Matthew Yearout, Jamie Yearout, Michael Bradshaw, John Bradshaw, and Paul Bradshaw, as well as great-grandchildren, other family members, and many friends who will miss her dearly. Services entrusted to Going Home Cremation and Funeral Care.
