Mitzi Layman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Starks & Menchinger Chapel - Saint Joseph on Feb. 14, 2026.
Mitzi Sue Layman 72, of Baroda Michigan, stepped into the glorious presence of her Savior on February 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy illuminated by faith, music, and a servant's heart. Born on May 9, 1953, in Gaylord Michigan, Mitzi lived a life that was a beautiful hymn of praise to Jesus Christ.

Her profound love for the Lord found its greatest expression at Grace Lutheran School in St. Joseph Michigan, where she served as a Preschool Teacher's Aide for over 15 years. To Mitzi, her work was a sacred mission; she did not just teach; she planted seeds of eternal faith in the hearts of little ones, showing them the love of Christ through her gentle spirit and kind hands.

A woman of many gifts, Mitzi filled the lives of those around her with the melodies of the piano, the warmth of home-cooked meals, and the beauty of God's creations in her gardening. Yet, her most vibrant joy was found within the lives of her grandchildren. She was a constant, radiant presence at every game and activity, her cheers from the sidelines serving as a testament to her fierce devotion and pride. To Gus, Harper, Alex, and Zoey, she was more than a grandmother; she was their greatest prayer warrior and most loyal fan.

Mitzi's life reminds us that true greatness is found in humble service and unconditional love. She is survived by her devoted children, son Lee (Amber) Layman and daughter Casey Layman, sisters Marketta(Chet) Hardy, Montreia (Kelly)Barney , brother Chip (Dianne) Eisenhart and her four beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14). We thank Jesus for the many years of service Mitzi gave to educating young children.

In memory of her, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church and School's education assistance fund, 404 Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085, to help more kids receive the education that she worked hard to provide.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." -

Proverbs 3:5-6
