In Loving Memory of Mohan Satyanand Mani
May 27,1948 – November 6, 2025
Mohan Satyanand Mani, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. He was 77.
Born in Bombay to P.A.S and Sarada Mani, Mohan carried a lifelong love for the city of his birth: a place he cherished for its culture, geography, and especially its food. He was the devoted brother of Sheela, Sulo, and Shanta, and the loving husband of Vardhini, whom he often described as his greatest strength. Together, they built a home known for its warmth, hospitality, and enduring love.
Mohan was a proud father to Akanshka and a doting, affectionate grandfather to Neil and Anya, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering presence.
He began his professional career in sales and marketing at Hindustan Thompson, later holding leadership roles at Cadbury, Revlon, and Pepsi. Known for his integrity, sharp eye for talent, and meticulous professionalism, Mohan rose to the position of Regional Sales and Marketing Manager, earning the respect of colleagues and peers alike.
A man of many passions, Mohan had a deep love for music, his tastes spanning from The Carpenters and The Beatles, everlasting tunes from Dr. Zhivago and Love Story to the haunting melodies of Talat Mahmood, Mohammed Rafi, and Hemant Kumar. He had a melodious voice and often sang along to his favorite tunes. He was also an avid reader and writer, a love he passed on to his daughter and grandchildren, along with his reverence for libraries and learning.
Mohan was known for his immaculate sense of style, punctuality, and deep courtesy in every interaction. He never borrowed, never took what wasn't his, and lived a life of quiet dignity and discipline. He was religious, praying daily, and found joy in routine, especially his twice-daily walks along Madison Avenue and near the Met after moving to the U.S. in 2015 to be closer to his family.
He adored the myriad offerings of Bombay cuisine-kebabs, biryani, South Indian filter coffee, dosas, and idlis-and equally relished his wife's home-cooked meals. In New York, he found joy in simple pleasures: school pickups, discussing cricket matches with his grandson, political debates with family, and evenings spent watching movies and TV with loved ones.
Despite his many accomplishments, Mohan remained a deeply private man. He was steadfast in his loyalty, stayed in touch with his college friends through daily WhatsApp chats, and always placed his loved ones at the center of his world.
Mohan's life was a testament to grace, discipline, and devotion. He cared for his parents until their final days, and in turn, was surrounded by love and care on his own last days. His absence leaves a profound void, but his legacy of loyalty, integrity, and love will live on in all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
