Moises ("Moe") Colon of Marshfield, formerly of Boston, passed away peacefully on November 14th, 2023, at home, with his loving wife by his side.
Moises was born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico on March 23rd, 1938. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Lucilla Colon, and Enrique Ortiz. Along with two of his brothers, Israel and Saul Colon.
He is survived by his beloved wife Joan (Shaw) Colon, his son and daughter Edward and Melinda Colon.
He is also survived by his daughter in law, Jo-Ann (G.) Colon along with four cherished granddaughters, Sophia Douglas, Brianna Colon, Selena Gray and Lilyanna Colon and an adoring great grandson Carlos-Justice Velazquez; three living brothers, Ifrain, David and Noe Colon along with many more loving family and friends.
Moises grew up on a farm in the small mountain town of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico with his parents and five brothers. Most recently, he was a resident of Marshfield, Ma for the past twelve years. In 1956 Moe joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Buchanan, PR where he served for three years.
In 1965 he met and married his beloved wife Joan and the two shared a long, devoted life together.
In 1977 Moises joined the Army National Guard and served for six years. In 1998 he received a heart transplant at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and was able to carry on living a fulfilling life. Moe spent many years employed at "John G. Shelley Company" in Wellesley - a custom manufacturer of specialty rubber products and distributor of medical equipment. Later in life Moe was a dedicated concierge at the JamaicaWay Tower & Townhouses in Jamaica Plain.
He was a lover of the outdoors, gardening and fishing. He liked to keep himself busy with small projects, building and fixing things alike. He loved the game of bowling and spent many years participating and competing in bowling leagues. He enjoyed playing cards, poker and the traditional game of dominoes. He was also a lover of the game of baseball and spent time playing in local leagues with friends. He enjoyed watching sports, a big fan of all the New England sports teams. He loved spending time with family, cooking and entertaining. To his grandchildren he was known as Papa. Moises had an infectious, fun and competitive nature. He had a way of cracking jokes and making people laugh, always with a smile on his face. He was a protector, a teacher, a confident, generous and charming soul who will be deeply missed by all.
Following his wishes, Moises will be cremated and interred in the Massachusetts National Cemetery for Veterans on Connery Avenue in Bourne, Massachusetts. The service will take place on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.
