Mona Hopkins Obituary
Mona Hopkins, 63, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
Born on January 16, 1962, in Duplin County, NC to her parents, Raymond and Carol Varga.
Mona had a deep love for animals and was an avid cat rescuer. She would help any animal that she saw in distress without a second thought. Mona began as a CNAI and progressed on the journey to become a treatment nurse for Harborview. She truly enjoyed what she did and was an excellent nurse.
Mona loved her family, especially her sisters. They were very close and would be at each other's side when they needed it most. She loved to host gatherings for her friends and family. She would never ask for them to bring anything except the presence of themselves and to enjoy each other's company.
Mona is survived by her two sisters, Vickie Onorio and Buffie Varga, both of Newport, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Carol, and her beloved brother in law, Sam Onorio.
