Mona L. McCarthy

Mona L. (Mitchell) McCarthy of Shrewsbury, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Worcester.

Mona is survived by her husband and best friend, Michael J. McCarthy; two sons, John F. Monahan, III and his wife Brenda of Shrewsbury, Michael P. Monahan and his wife Sheri of Boylston; a daughter, Cathleen M. Liberty and her husband Robert of Worcester; three brothers, Michael Mitchell of Whitinsville, Robert Mitchell of NC, and William Mitchell of Boylston; two sisters, Rita Vermeesch of Fort Lauderdale, and Theresa Tokla of Mashpee; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Keith Peirce and John Sullivan, and by a brother, Ronald Mitchell. Mona was born in Jefferson, MA, daughter of the late, John J and Ida (Teso) Mitchell. She graduated from Worcester High School of Commerce.

Mona worked in the advertising department at The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, retiring as department supervisor in 2008. She attended Saint Mary of The Hills Church. She enjoyed time with family, traveling, gardening, crossword puzzles, and watching birds and their beauty of flight.

Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, May 6, from 4 pm until 7 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be the following day, Wednesday, May 7 at 11 am in the funeral home, followed by a procession to Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury for final committal prayers.
