Monica O. A. Phillips, 70, passed from this life unexpectedly at her home in Glade Park, Colorado on Sunday, February 2, 2025. She was born on Wednesday, January 19, 1955, in Ozona, Texas to Enrique and Juanita (Orozco) Armendariz. Monica graduated with the class of 1974 from Odessa High School in Odessa, Texas. She attended Odessa College where she met Thomas Phillips, after college she moved to Colorado and married him on August 22, 1976.
Monica was handy with a hammer in one hand and a pencil in the other. She did not mind getting her hands dirty. She was always learning and creating. She and Thom would always do home projects together inside and outside their home. She was good at sewing, crocheting and scrapbooking. Her smile always stretched from ear to ear. Monica read the Bible daily and tried to live her life by God’s word. She enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with family. She was a wonderful cook and put together many wonderful meals for family and neighborhood gatherings. People would comment on her hair being white as snow like her momma and curly like her papa. She was slow to understand a joke which earned her the nickname “Speedi Turtle”. Monica leaves behind her love and memories with husband Thom Phillips, son Zeth Phillips, brothers: Jaime (Karen) Armendariz, Hugo Armendariz, Lucio Armendariz, and, Juan Pedro Armendariz; sisters: Luiza (Robert) McDougall and Roxanne Armendariz; Uncles: Luis (Julie) Orozco and Emilio (Graciela) Armendariz; Aunts: Francis Luevano and Gloria Coward; 8 nieces; 7 nephews; 2 great nieces, 2 great nephews, 2 great-great nephews and many, many cousins. Monica was predeceased by her parents, brothers: Alonzo Armendariz and Michael Armendariz, nephew Charles T. Penachio, Mother-in law Sylvia N. Hagberg and brother-in-law Bill C. Phillips.
Monica's funeral will be at 11am on February 15th at Glade Park Community Church, followed by burial at Glade Park Cemetery.
