Monte Mac Ginnings, 79, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Integris Hospice Home. He was born September 13, 1944, to John and Ann Ginnings.
Monte grew up with his parents in Atoka, Oklahoma where he graduated from Atoka High School in 1963. Monte attended Oklahoma Christian College and graduated in 1967 with a degree in Bible. He continued his education at Harding Seminary School in Memphis where he graduated with a master's in theology in 1970.
Monte married his lifelong sweetheart, Cheryl (Novak) Ginnings in 1966 in Arlington, Virginia. They have three children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Monte began his career as a minister in Algood, Tennessee. He served as a pulpit minister in various Churches of Christ throughout Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas during his life. Monte was a lifelong student of the gospel, always seeking ways to learn and lead others to Christ. After retiring in 2014 he became a minister at the Apache and Sterling churches where he served until his move to Oklahoma City in 2024.
Monte loved to travel and was known for his large collection of books. He had a gift of hospitality and enjoyed being around his many friends and family. His passion for the Church led him to do global mission work in India and various mission efforts throughout the US. He loved history and served as a tour guide in Huntsville, Texas at the home of Sam Houston, and as a docent at the Wildlife Refuge in Lawton, Oklahoma. He had a passion for the culture and rich heritage of the state of Oklahoma.
Monte is preceded by his parents, John and Ann Ginnings, and in-laws, Warder and Lottie Novak. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Blake Matthew and his caretakers Jason and Cassi Sheppard; daughter, Ginger Amy Teague, her husband Calvin Teague of Tulsa; daughter, Brooke Laurie O'Dell, and her husband Eric O'Dell of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Madeleine (Teague) Coursen and her husband Jon Coursen, Penelope Teague, Jack Teague, Wrigley O'Dell, Finley O'Dell; great-grandchildren, Rebel Coursen, and Hero Coursen.
