Ms. Montez Wright was born on September 9, 1940, in the town of Mullins, SC to the late Roosevelt Wright and Lena Lloyd. On Tuesday October 21, 2025 Montez was called to eternal peace after a short illness at McLeod Health Hospice House in Florence, SC.
Montez and her family resided in Mullins, SC until she was 7 years old and her mother moved them to Cox St. in East Florence.Their family left East Florence and moved to West Florence when she was a young adult and resided there until moving to Oakland Heights (now Oaks at Florence) in North Florence, in the early 70's where she raised her children. After all her children were grown and left home, later in life she moved to Coit Village Apartments in West Florence, where she resided until her passing.
She attended the public schools of Florence County. She did domestic work for various families and she also worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florence, SC.
At an early age she accepted Christ and attended New Ebenezer Baptist Church, but later joined the Majority Baptist Church, both in Florence, SC.
She was preceded in death by her siblings James Lloyd, Dora Mae Wright, Mary “Bea” Robinson, Velma Goodman, and Eleanor Wilson. A daughter Debra Wright and a granddaughter April Wilson.
Montez was a loving woman who claimed all the neighborhood children as her own. It was nothing to receive a phone call and voicemail expressing her love and adoration. Even without a car or license she was always on the go. She would always think of others for a special occasion with a thoughtful gift or a card. She would always show love and support in the most meaningful ways.
Montez leaves to cherish memories her children: Joffra (Shirley) Wright, Derry (Crystal) Wright, Lisa (Robert) Taylor, Charles Wright, Beverly Wilson, a daughter raised as a niece; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grands children; one brother in law, William Robinson and a best friend Clydie Burgess, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, other cousins and friends who will cherish her memory.
Family will receive friends from 5 PM - 8 PM , at 3611 Carroll Drive, (Glendale Subdivision), Florence, SC.
Please keep the family of Montez Wright in your thoughts and prayers.
